Obituary – Delilah Johnson

MARION, S.D. — Delilah Deckert Johnson, 100, died Feb. 28, 2008, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
Visitation was March 3 at the Tieszen Memorial Home Chapel, with Hofmeister-Jones Funeral Chapel, Marion, in charge of arrangements.
Funeral services were at March 4 at the First Church of God, Marion, with burial in the Schartner Cemetery, rural Marion.
Delilah Deckert was born Jan. 10, 1908, at Marion, S.D., to John B. and Nettie (Schmidt) Deckert. She grew up at Marion, graduated from Marion High School and received her teaching certificate from Southern State Normal School in Springfield, S.D. She taught music in schools at Marion and Concord, and gave private music lessons at home. She also played piano and organ in church for many years. She married Willis Johnson Sept. 1, 1957, at Marion. They lived in Concord until 1976 when she moved back to Marion. Her husband died in 1986.
Delilah was listed in the American Women in Music Who’s Who.
For the past number of years she has been a resident of the Tieszen Memorial Home.
Survivors include her daughters, Mona Lee Craigg, Forest Grove, Ore.; Lettie Elaine Osborne, Tulsa, Okla.; and Lorna Mae Gardner, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis; a brother, Anthony; and a grandson, Robert Gardner.
