Jennie Mae Kilburn

RANDOLPH — Jennie Mae Kilburn, 93, Randolph, formerly of Yankton, S.D., died Jan. 6, 2018, at Randolph.

Private family graveside services will be in Bixby Cemetery, Bixby, Okla., under the direction of Leonard-Marker Funeral Home, Bixby. Local arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home, Randolph.

Jennie was born July 28, 1924 at Yale, Okla., the daughter of James and Pauline (Brown) Gatewood. She attended schools in Oklahoma and Missouri, and graduated from Central High School, St. Louis, Mo. Jennie married E. Nelson Kilburn Nov. 15, 1942, at Bixby. The couple made their home in Bixby while her husband, Nels, served in the United States Navy during World War II. The family eventually moved to South Dakota living in Pickstown and finally moving to Yankton, S.D.

Jennie enjoyed cooking, which led her to work in many restaurants, specializing in pie making. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and quilting. Much of her time was spent quilting at the Yankton Senior Center. Jennie moved to Randolph in November 2017 and resided at Colonial Manor, Randolph.

Surviving is her son, James and Jo Kilburn, Randolph; three grandchildren, Jeremy Kilburn, Omaha; Julie and Josh Schreiber, Lanesboro, Minn.; and Jennifer Kilburn, Tulsa, Okla.; and three great-grandchildren, Joelie, Jessie and Jentrey Schreiber, Lanesboro, Minn.

Preceding Jennie in death are her parents; husband, E. Nelson Kilburn, Sept. 2, 1992; one great-grandson, Jay Andrew Schreiber; and two sisters, Iamogean Ward and Betty Jo Cowan.
