James West

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Graveside services for James West, 64, Columbia, Mo., will be 2 p.m., Sept. 13, at Lutheran Cemetery, Wausa. Rev. Carl Sirotzki will officiate. Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m., Sept. 12, at Brockhaus Funeral Home, Wausa. Jim died Sept. 2, 2018, at his home in Columbia, surrounded by family, after a year-long battle with cancer. Jim was born May 30, 1954, in Coleridge, the son of Clayton and Joyce (Rosberg) West. He married Shirley Sue (McKee) Pierce Dec. 18, 1981, in Sioux City, Iowa. After moving to Columbia, Jim held several jobs. Most notably, he ran a picture frame shop, “Four Corners Framing” for 18 years. His most recent job, which he enjoyed greatly, was with Burrell Health Services in the maintenance department. He had a talent for fixing things and was a gifted carpenter. Jim was an honorable man and was a creative and innovative thinker. Jim was a cowboy at heart and was most comfortable in jeans, boots and a western hat. He was an avid reader of western books. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Sue West, of the home; his mother, Joyce West, Wausa; one brother, Raymond West; two sisters, Margaret Grote and Linda Hughes, all of Wausa; two step daughters, Kimberly Mize (James), Columbia, Mo., and Jonelle Pierce, Parkland, Fla.; grandchildren, Jeffery Blauvelt, Staci Blauvelt, Kelli Robinson and Zachary Mize, all of Columbia, Mo.; and Danielle Palmer, Parkland, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Mila Stevenson, Anna Stevenson, Landon Ballis, and Carter Blauvelt, all of Columbia, Mo.; special aunt, LaVerne Acklie, Wausa; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton West; one brother, William West; and maternal and fraternal grandparents. We celebrate Jim’s life by paying tribute to him for all the wonderful things he did for family and friends. Thanks to Dr. Mark Vellek and all the staff for the loving wonderful care that Jim received from Missouri Cancer Associates.
