Galen Eugene and Leslie Marie Hoffart

COLERIDGE — Galen Eugene, 67, and Leslie Marie Hoffart, 65, Coleridge, died Nov. 26, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, Iowa, as the result of injuries sustained in a pedestrian/auto accident in Norfolk, Nov. 25.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., Friday, at the church. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 1, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, with Rev. David Liewer officiating. Burial will be in the Coleridge City Cemetery. The Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, is in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers will be Galen and Leslie’s grandchildren, Jaime Gray, Nate Gray, Jaren Hoffart, Kori Ann Hoffart, Alyssa Hoffart, Aspen Hansen, Reagan Hansen, Dawson Graham, Kenzie Graham, Kylar Graham, and Drew Graham, as well as John Hoffart, Kent Hoffart, Mike Hoffart, Kirk Olsen, Steve Steffen, Larry Kusel and Lee Hoffart.

Galen was born March 21, 1950, in Laurel, to Harold Henry and Marcella Mary Frances (Bruening) Hoffart. He grew up on a farm near Coleridge and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1968. He attended Northeast Technical College, Norfolk, for one year. Leslie was born Aug. 27, 1952, in Omaha, to Leonard Mark and Roberta May (Kindred) Clary. She grew up in Omaha and moved to Coleridge in 1967. She graduated from Coleridge High School in 1970. Galen and Leslie were married June 20, 1970, in Coleridge where Galen worked for the elevator before opening Hoffart Motors in Coleridge. When the business was destroyed by fire in 1994, Galen began working at Great Dane Trailers, Wayne, until he retired Dec. 1, 2016.

Leslie received her LPN degree from Northeast Community College, Norfolk, in 2000. She worked as a nurse for Dr. Gilberto Collazo at the Wausa and Coleridge clinics, and recently became the Rural Health Coordinator for the Osmond General Hospital, Wausa Medical Clinic and Randolph Family Practice. Galen was a former member of the Coleridge Community Club and the Coleridge Volunteer Fire Department, Park View Haven Board of Directors and the Village of Coleridge Trustees. Together they loved to travel and attend their grandchildren’s events. Galen enjoyed cooking and grilling, woodworking and following baseball and Husker football. Leslie loved being a nurse and taking care of people. She also enjoyed reading and visiting different wineries.

They are survived by four children, Angela and Scott Gray, Norfolk; Tim and Jennifer Hoffart, Kearney; Amy and Chris Hansen, Coleridge; April and Chris Graham, Gothenburg; and 11 grandchildren. Galen’s siblings are Ruth and Hank Kusel, Riverton, Wyo.; Jerry and Jean Hoffart, Hartington; Randy Hoffart and his wife, Rebecca Sutherland, Hartington; and a sister-in-law, Joann Hoffart, Coleridge. Leslie is also survived by one sister, Kathleen Reynolds, Omaha, and a sister-in-law, Sharon Clary, Oneonta, Ala. Galen was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Larry Hoffart, and an infant brother, John Francis Hoffart. Preceding Leslie in death were her parents; her step mother, Darlene Clary; and two brothers, Edward and Michael Clary.
