Obituary – Andy Uhing




HARTINGTON  — Andrew “Andy” J. Uhing, 67, Hartington, died July 2, 2011, at the Bohemian Bed and Breakfast, New Ulm, Minn., due to a fire at that facility.

Visitation will be July 10, from 4-8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fordyce. Visitation will continue on Monday with family one hour prior to services at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be July 11, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Fordyce, with the Rev. David Fulton officiating.

Burial of his ashes will be in the St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Fordyce, with military graveside rites by the Wynot American Legion.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.

Andrew Joseph Uhing was born March 29, 1944, in Bow Valley, to Joseph and Ida (Thoene) Uhing. He attended elementary school in Bow Valley before going to the Seminary in Wisconsin from 1958-1959. Andy then worked for Backus Trucking and then for Jensen Trucking from 1962-1963. He married Sandra Marie Bonertz Sept. 2, 1967, in St. James. Andy began driving a school bus for the area schools in 1971 until the present, amassing 40 years of bus driving. Andy did apprentice upholstery work with Mrs. Hintz, Belden. He then began his own upholstery business in 1975.

Andy enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards, dancing with Sandy, and playing his guitar. He especially loved to spend time with his family, grandchildren and friends.

Andy is survived by his wife, Sandy, Hartington; six children and their spouses, Tammie and Neil Pedersen, Hartington; Brenda Bradbury, Pipestone, Minn.; Bill and Christa Uhing, Staplehurst; Jim Uhing, Norfolk; Tina and Richie Monteith, Yankton, S.D.; and Shelly and Clint Pinkelman, Hartington; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandson; six brothers and sisters, Rita and Stanley Varilek, Tabor, S.D.; Margaret and Charlie Bares, Tyndall, S.D.; Irene and Leo Kocmich, Dante, S.D.; Jerome and Alice Uhing, Bow Valley; Francis and Gail Uhing, Wynot; and Rosemary and Dave Folkers, Bow Valley.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lenny Uhing; sister, Mary Ann Uhing; step mother Ann Redeker Uhing; one niece and one nephew.
