Practice for fall sports season gets underway

LAUREL — Coach Pat Arens conducted the first practice of the 2018 football season Monday. The Bear football team is looking to improve upon last year’s 1-7 record. It won’t be an easy task, however. Reclassification has moved several teams into several different classes.

The Bears will compete in Class D1 District 5 this season. Other teams in that District are: Howells-Dodge, Lutheran High NE, Madison, Neligh-Oakdale and Elkhorn Valley. Howells-Dodge, Lutheran High NE and Neligh-Oakdale are all rated in the Top 10 in Class D1 by Huskerland Prep Report. The Bears only graduated one senior — lineman Zach Dietrich — so they will have plenty of experience returning this season.
