New Methodist minister begins duties here

LAUREL — The Laurel and Logan Center United Methodist Churches will be welcoming a new pastor, Pastor Isaac Chua and his wife, Anna, to lead their congregations. The former pastor, Pastor Dave York, has been appointed to the Methodist Church in Leavenworth, Kan. Pastor Isaac was born in the tiny country of Singapore in Southeast Asia. His parents are both Methodist ministers and through their ministry contacts Isaac learned about Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan. In 2008, he came to the United States where he completed his undergraduate degree in philosophy and religion. This is also where he met his future wife, Anna. Upon graduation, Isaac went onto Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky, where he obtained a Master of Divinity degree.

He then returned to the Great Plains annual conference where he was commissioned as a provisional elder. Isaac was appointed to the Woodlawn UMC in Derby, Kan., where he began as an associate pastor in 2016. Isaac was approved by the Board of Ordained Ministry and ordained as a full elder at the Great Plains annual conference June 15. His entire family came to the U.S. from Singapore to attend his ordination and to visit for several weeks.
