Williams, Dietrich punch tickets to State meet

NORTH BEND — After losing heartbreaking matches last year, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge’s two big guys both punched tickets to this week’s state tournament. Ethan Williams and Zach Dietrich both lost in the District consolation semifinals last year, and both were able to bounce back and win this year to earn a trip to state at Saturday’s C3 District meet.

“Ethan wrestled out of his mind the last couple of days and Zach did a great job coming back and got a break with an injury default to the consolation final,” coach Don Maxwell said. “They worked very hard to get here and deserve the trip to state.” Williams was a district finalist at 220 pounds, losing to Diego Guerrer of Wood River on a 9-3 decision in the finals. The 220-pound junior will carry a 32-11 record into an opening-round match against Josh Bailey of Johnson County Central, a junior with a 22-3 record.
