Bears suffer pair of losses at Great Northeast Neb. Shootout

WAYNE — LCC boys basketball coach Todd Erwin was hoping for a better result from his team at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout, but still saw some good things from his young team after a sixth-place finish.

The Bears fell to Wayne 76-57 in the opening round, but came back to post a 54-49 win over Gordon-Rushville before finishing the tournament with an 82-62 loss to Norfolk Catholic to fall to 8-3 on the season.

“We played well at times,” Erwin said. “We got off to slow starts in all three games, which is unusual for us, but the kids came back and played hard in the second half so I was happy with the effort. It was great competition and the kids learned a lot. That was something we needed — we are a young team.”
