New Superintendent is ready to greet LCC students, staff

Crystal Brummels Laurel Advocate LAUREL — New Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School Supt. Jeremy Christiansen is ready to take on a new challenge. Christiansen moved to Laurel in July after being hired to replace Randy Klooz. Christiansen’s journey to Laurel is an interesting one. He was born and raised in Belle Fourche, S.D. Upon graduation, he moved to Berkeley, Calif. to attend college. It was there that Christiansen first got the calling to become a teacher.

The university required students to enroll in a class that focused on community service. During his first semester, he helped with a community theater, the second semester, an adult illiteracy center and the third semester he was in a fifth grade class in Oakland. He said that’s when he fell in love with teaching and the kids. While in California, he also had a part-time job in a day school. The students at the school were students with social and emotional challenges. This was a great time for Christiansen to learn and grow. After two years at the University of California, Christiansen transferred to Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D. for a semester. Then transferred to the University of Nebraska-Omaha to complete his degree.
