Area students are selected for Boys, Girls State

LAUREL — Each June, juniors from all over Nebraska gather in the capitol city of Lincoln to spend five days to learn more about the government at state and the county level. The Nebraska Girls and Boys State is a wonderful experience for these juniors to meet senators, the governor, gain knowledge, meet new people, and make lasting memories.

The Laurel American Legion Post 54 selected Betha n y Kardell and Evan Urwiler and the Coleridge American Legion Post 114 selected Madisyn Hall and Noah Stone to attend this summers’ event.

Bethany Kardell is an active student at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge School participating in volleyball and basketball, and is also a member of the National Honor Society. Kardell is also an active member of her church’s youth group. In addition to keeping busy with school, Kardell is working on becoming a Certified Nurses Aid. This being the first step in her plan to becoming a registered nurse. When asked about attending Girls State she states, “I know of others who have gone, it was a great experience and a lot of fun.” states Kardell adding, “I want to learn more about our government” during this once in a lifetime experience.
