Roads, bridges dominate talk at County meeting

HARTINGTON — Road projects and building permits were the main topics at last Tuesday’s Cedar County Commission meeting.
Board members talked about some of the road projects that are coming up and bridge inspections that will be made.
Commissioner Dave McGregor talked to board members about a road project that might not be done. A land owner wants Cedar County to pay him for loss of crops and also for the dirt that will be used with the project, according to McGregor. Three-fourths of the road is along the land owner’s property.
The land owner was told Cedar County does not do this.
“There is no permanent policy in place to do this,” McGregor said. “This would set a precedent if we pay a land owner – we have to be careful if we would ever do this.”
