Pinkelman is elected Chairman of County Board

HARTINGTON    —  Terry Pinkelman was elected last week as the new Chairman of the Cedar County Board of Commissioners.
The Wynot native takes over for Dave McGregor who served as Chairman the past two years.
With the newly voted commissioner Craig Bartels attending his first meeting, their first vote was on the natural rotation of chairman, and it was Pinkelman’s turn.
Pinkelman has served as a commissioner for the past six years.
Pinkelman views the county commissioner role as a way to give back to the community.
When Pinkelman’s son, Todd, returned to Wynot to help him farm, Pinkelman recognized he had more time on his hands. He was approached by several people who thought he would be a good candidate to replace the retiring Frederick Pinkelman for the county commissioner position.
Pinkelman ran and was elected to a four-year term in 2010.
“I thought I’d give it a try,” he said.

Now he is more aware about what is taking place in the county, Pinkelman added. As county commissioner, and chairman in 2013, he has met and worked with many new people on a variety of jobs.
“There’s a tremendous amount of time to it,” Pinkelman said.
In a 2014 interview, Pinkelman said on average, he spends about 25 percent of his time as commissioner on road and bridge projects. The rest of his time is spent on other issues.
Pinkelman, Wynot, will be in charge of running the Board meetings, but, as he said, that is about all the chairman does beyond regular commissioner duties.
