Flood abatement plan is important for all Randolph citizens floodplain project

RANDOLPH — With the Oct. 3 special election for the bonding of the Randolph floodplain project quickly approaching, the Randolph Times is looking at all the issues connected with the vote.
While a designated floodplain area affecting over 130 structures in Randolph may seem serious, even more potentially serious are the 20 percent of flood claims that typically originate outside of floodplain designated areas during and after a flood.
Homes close to a floodplain, but not actually in it, can experience backed-up sewers and hydrostatic pressure in basements that cause walls and floors to buckle.
Without flood insurance these homes outside the floodplain are not typically covered for those occurrences.
