City Council addresses Flood Plain issues

RANDOLPH — Floodplain issues, agreements and plans were part of the discussion at the Randolph City Council meeting April 5.
Storage units, in an R1, residential only, zoned district, that are located in the floodplain are in violation of the floodplain requirements.
Any structure that did not existed before 1988 and is located in the floodplain needs to be elevated to comply with the floodplain specs, according to Randolph Economic Development Director Gary Van Meter.
“This is not a city zoning issue,” he said. “It is a Federal compliance issue and exactly why getting rid of the floodplain is so important.”
