Trio of OHS athletes earn honors

OSMOND — Three Osmond Lady Tigers, Caitlin Kumm, Hannah Gutz and Hailey Johnson, were named to the Lewis and Clark All-Conference volleyball team.

Kumm was the only member of the team to be All-Conference first team. Both Gutz and Johnson were All-Conference honorable mention.

Kumm was near the top of every individual statistical category. She was perhaps most dangerous when serving and setting. She had a team-high 51 aces and 227 set-assists. She had 96 digs (second), 63 kills (fourth), and 17 blocks (fourth).

Gutz was the team’s primary target offensively. She put down a team-high 89 kills to go along with 18 ace serves.

Johnson was one of the Lady Tigers’ core players at the net. She led the team with 35 total blocks. She posted 69 kills and 14 aces.

The Osmond Lady Tigers, with a 6-16 season record, improved gradually throughout the year, thanks, in part, to these three standouts.

Also contributing were juniors Emily Bolz, Andrea Schmit and Shelby Stelling and sophomores Haven Schultze, Makenzie Johnson and Mariah Stech. The girls all played the maximum 59 sets.

Freshmen Kennedy Johnson (39 sets), Madeline Huwaldt (seven sets) and Alex Brestel (three sets) are all up-and-coming players looking to contribute in the future.

Several of the Lady Tigers’ divisional opponents also had individuals recognized for All-Conference, including Maycey Forker, McKayla Brockhaus, Kirsten Adams and Bailey Zimmer of Creighton; Maggie Gall, Carley Thies, Alyssa Fye and Molly Lemmons of Randolph; Kylie Mosel and Carissa Wacker of Plainview; Regan Hennings, Mary Johnson and Clare Lundberg of Wausa, and Leah Poppe of Bloomfield.
