Tiger cross country team is runner-up at Niobrara

NIOBRARA — On Thursday, Aug. 31, the Osmond cross country teams traveled to Niobrara for the Niobrara-Verdigre Invitational held at Niobrara State Park. At the end of the race, the Tigers had earned the second place plaque, just three points from first. The Neligh-Oakdale score was 26 and the Osmond score, 29, with Stanton third at 36 points.
Jared Bessmer was the top Osmond finisher in his best time on this course of 18:21.  Johnson Chishiba was seventh at 19:29, Aaron Chishiba was 11th in his best time on this course of 20:15, and Ethan Pfanstiel came in 17th, also in his best time on this course of 21:16.   Alexander Heiman was 22nd in a time of 21:50 and Keaton Timmerman was 23rd in a close 21:56. Alex Kumm finished in 31st position at 23:39 and again faster than last year. Connor von Rentzell was 37th in 25:46.
In the girls’ division, Jozie Kumm finished the race in 23rd place in a time of 29:29, just missing out on a medal.  In the junior high boys’ division, eighth grader Kaden Polt finished seventh in the 24-man field in a time of 5:52 for 1,600 meters.
“I was very pleased with the races today and the way all the runners prepared,” praised Coach Joe Ortmeier.  “This is the second time we have earned a plaque at an invitational. Last time was at Neligh in 2013.”
Osmond will run at Hartington on Thursday, Sept. 14, starting at 4:30 p.m.
