Summerfest to feature new, returning events

OSMOND — The annual Summerfest celebration in Osmond is planned for Sunday, June 25. A full day of activities is on tap. The theme for the day is “Osmond Is Magical . . . Just Believe.” Most activities will take place in the area of Poolside Park.
Among opening events is jazzercise on Marty Riessen Tennis Courts which begins at 7 a.m. Osmond Fire Department will serve its traditional breakfast of red sausage, eggs and pancakes at the city hall from 9 a.m. until noon. During pancake feed hours, the Osmond General Hospital wellness team will provide health checks, also at the city hall.
Senior Citizen “Down Memory Lane” open house is planned for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then resumes after the parade until 5 p.m.
Kids can register for the pedal pull at 11 a.m., with the pull beginning at 12 noon on the street south of the park.
Parade sign-up is next with entries asked to be registered by 1 p.m. Registration takes pace at the corner of Second and State streets (Big John Mfg.-Dana Cole corner). Posting of The Colors will be by American Legion Post 326 at 2 p.m. The parade will begin immediately after the opening ceremonies. There will be three prizes in the children’s division and two prizes in the “all other” category.
Getting underway at 1 p.m. will be the Texas Hold ’em poker tournament in the north park shelter.
Following the parade, there will be a large number of carnival-type games. They will take place throughout the park with several new events added. Among new activities are laser tag on the volleyball courts and water fights on Main Street, north of the Second Street junction. A complete list of events is printed in an ad of Page 5 of this issue.
A beer garden will be open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Highlighting the evening slate are serving a pulled pork, sliced beef and hot dog meal from 5 to 7 p.m. The menu includes potato salad or chips, baked beans and lemonade. Admission is by free-will donation.
The evening entertainment will be Jim Perry Magician, It features magic and humorous entertainment for the entire family. It includes fire, liquids, silks and a myriad of highly visual surprising magical effects.
Also on the evening program is naming of the Outstanding Osmond Citizen. New to this year’s Summerfest is naming of an Outstanding Osmond Farm Family.
Returning for Summerfest ’17 is perennial favorite DJ Ed Gordon who will entertain at various times during the afternoon and evening.
Two raffle baskets will be available — one with passes to Norfolk Seven and Starlite Drive-in theatres and another with passes to the Pierce, Wayne, Madison and Knox county fairs.
Four auction packages will also be available to bid on: No. 1: four tickets to Bret Michaels concert, beverage gift card, gasoline gift card; No. 2: four tickets to Henry Doorley Zoo, four tickets to Laurentzen Gardens, gasoline gift card; No. 3: four tickets to Cornhusker football game, four prime rib dinners, gasoline gift card; No. 4: golfing package, gift card.
The curtain will ring down on Summerfest ’17 with closing ceremonies and retiring of The Colors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7838.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for the evening activities.
Summerfest is sponsored by Osmond Community Club. The planning committee includes Lisa Johnson, Erica Frahm. Amanda Koehler, Star Albracht and Bernice Blecha. Many, many community members have volunteered to help with staging the event.
