Household hazardous waste collection set

The Northeast Nebraska Resource Conservation & Development (RC&D) Council was awarded funds from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality to do three household hazardous waste collection events. They are scheduled for Thursday, Sep. 12, in Neligh from 9 to 11 a.m. at the compactor-recycling station located south of town off Highway 14, and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Plainview at the RC&D parking lot on east Highway 20 and on Friday, Sep. 13, in Wayne at the transfer station-recycling center from 9 to 11 a.m.  There is a $10 per vehicle donation requested which will be used to cover additional disposal-related expenses.

Items being accepted include latex and oil-based paint, used oil, adhesives, solvents, pesticides, antifreeze, fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent light bulbs, any items containing mercury, aerosol cans and car batteries. Only household quantities will be accepted. Call the RC&D office at (402) 582-4866 for additional information or with questions.
