Gubbels is third at Clearwater Invite

CLEARWATER — The Osmond wrestlers competed at the Clearwater-Orchard invitational on Saturday, Feb. 3.  The Tigers scored 24 points and finished in 12th place out of the 14 teams competing.

The team champion was Burwell, followed by Elkhorn Valley and Plainview.

Individually for the Tigers, Paul Gubbels finished third with a record of three wins and one loss and Colton Beacom finished with two wins and two losses.

“I was very pleased with how both kids wrestled,” said Coach Larry McKenna. “After missing the last two meets, Paul had a good tournament, winning his first three matches to reach the finals in the 138-lb. weight class. In the finals, Paul lost to Christian Miller of Plainview.  Colton also had a good tournament.  He lost his first match of the tournament but then came back and wrestled well to win his next two matches before losing his last match of the day.”

The Tigers’ next action will be the district meet held in Howells starting on Friday, Feb.  10.  Wrestling begins at 3 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.

138 lbs. — Gubbels won by pin over Miller of Elgin-Pope John and Allen of Sioux City West, won by 3-1 decision over Hughes of Burwell, lost by pin to Miller of Plainview

145 lbs. — Beacom lost by pin to Molacek of Howells, won by pin over Wentworth of West Holt, won by 10-2 decision over Slaymaker of West Holt, lost by pin to McFarland of Elkhorn Valley.
