Gansebom honored by grandson

OSMOND — Delmer Gansebom was recently honored to receive a special gift from his grandson, Caleb Neuhalfen. Caleb is serving with the United States Marine Corps, and recently returned home after a three-year tour of duty in Iraq. He brought with him a flag that was flown over Iraq during Operation Inherent Resolve in honor of his grandfather, Delmer.
The accompanying certificate reads “United States Marine Corps Certificate of Authenticity. This certifies that this flag was flown over Iraq during Operation Inherent Resolve in honor of Private First Class Delmer Gansebom for his faithful and dedicated service during the Korean War, 12 December, 2016. Task Force Al Taqaddum, 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Al Taqaddum Air Base, Iraq.”
Caleb, son of Todd and Lori Neuhalfen of Norfolk, will be discharged from the Marines in May after serving his country for four years. His grandfather, Delmer, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.
Delmer says it is an honor to have received the flag, and says he flies it on special occasions.
