Cameron Moes is track classic champion

The 20th annual Northeast Nebraska Track Classic was held on Thursday, May 1, at Norfolk High School’s Johnny Carson field. This was the third time Cameron Moes had competed in this meet, so the junior knew what the competition was like. He was second in the 3,200 meters a year ago, so his expectations were high.

He started the race with his sprint from the start and settled in front of the field.  He was challenged by a runner from Hartington, then Chambers, before they fell back.  Zach Welch of Ainsworth and Grant Johnston of O’Neill moved up after lap four to challenge, but Cameron accelerated and held them off each time.  On lap seven, Welch did get around Cameron, but only for a short time before the Tiger let his stride out and extended his lead to the finish. Cameron won the race in a time of 10:16.37, just two seconds shy of his school record.
