Boys’ track team wins D-1 District; girls fifth

HARTINGTON — Wednesday, May 10, started out rainy and cool, but ended with a District Championship for the Osmond boys’ track team. The Tigers won six events and used some depth to outdistance second-place Elkhorn Valley. The girls won two events and took second place twice to finish in fifth place. In the process, 10 Osmond athletes qualified in 10 events for the state track meet in Omaha next weekend.
Starting with the field events, Brock Johnson won the high jump with a leap of 5 ft., 10 in. and had a quality attempt at 6 ft. Cole Moes finished in fifth place with a personal best mark of 5 ft., 7 in.  Kyle Swallow hit a long 41-ft. jump in the triple jump on his first attempt, then cleared the automatic mark on his second, winning the event with a personal best distance of 41 ft., 11 in.  Nick Reikofski was sixth at 37 ft., 6.5 in.
