Benefit planned for Aschoff granddaughter

A benefit for Kelly Jo (Haselhorst) Swanson is planned for Sunday, Sep. 15, at the VFW hall at 316 West Braasch Avenue in Norfolk. Barbecued pulled pork sandwiches “with all the fixin’s” will be served from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is by free-will donation. A silent auction begins at 6 p.m.

A Randolph native, Kelly Jo, 32, is the daughter of Dan and Jackie Haselhorst of Randolph. She is a granddaughter of John and Rita Aschoff of Osmond. She and husband Eric have a son, six-year-old Chase.

Kelly Jo was diagnosed with a form of cancer called sarcoma. After many months of multiple tests and procedures, she underwent a painful surgery to remove a large tumor from her leg. She recently traveled to the Mayo Clinic in search of answers and treatment. Those organizing the benefit indicated that because of the nature of her intensive care nursing position at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, she has no paid time off and no income unless she is able to work her shifts.
