Randolph blanks LCC in season opener

LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge Bears didn’t exactly get a warm welcome to eight-man football in their season-opener here Friday.

State-rated Randolph defeated the Bears 48-0 in front of the Haskell Field crowd.

The Bear offense had trouble mDSC_0245oving the ball against the staunch Randolph defense as the Cardinals ended up forcing more LCC punts on the night, 9, than allowing LCC first downs, 5.

The Bears started out strong, forcing the Cards to punt on their first possession, but  the Orange and Black could
n’t find any success on their first series, either, as they were forced to punt with a three-and-out.

Randolph took the LCC punt and put together a solid 10-play 67-yard scoring drive. The drive was keyed by several Drew Loberg runs. Randolph then found paydirt on a three-yard Mason Stubbs quarterback keeper.
