Memorial Day services are planned here for next week

LAUREL — Memorial Day 2014 will be observed on Monday, May 26 in the new gym at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge High School. The program begins at 10 a.m.

After the presentation of the Colors by the American Legion and VFW posts, Austin Dvorak will sing the Star Spangled Banner. Pastor Jaime Farias will deliver the invocation. The Marian Mallatt singers, under the direction of Claudia Dvorak, will provide two vocal selections. Introduction of the speaker will be by Dwayne Freeman. This year’s speaker is Troy Pospisil.

Following the events at the school, the observance will then move to the cemetery where roll call of the deceased veterans will be read by Jim Lipp.  American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries will place a wreath to honor the unknown soldier. American Legion and VFW members will fire a 21-gun salute. Bob Dickey will then play “Taps” to salute the fallen comrades.

Once again this year, following the events at the gym and cemetery, the Laurel Cemetery Association will be serving dinner at the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge old gym beginning at 11 a.m.

Laurel Vets Club members will put up flags Friday, May 23, at 6 p.m. and invite community members to join them.
