McDonald comes back to Cedar County to share cancer story

LAUREL — Living as far away as Whitesboro, Texas did not keep Rick McDonald from coming  to Laurel for the 2017 Relay for Life.
McDonald, who had been honored as the Hero of Hope for the event, took time to talk to the group who had gathered at Haskell Field.
“I am here to inspire you and provide some information,” he said. “I am now cancer free. I understand the impact cancer can have and what it can do to you. People need to know they are not alone. Others helped me and now it is my turn to help someone else.”
Friends who had cancer before McDonald found out he had cancer gave him hope. They told him about some of the new ways that are being used to fight cancer.
