Laurel’s Main Street will take on new look after fire

LAUREL — Laurel’s main downtown business street is taking on a decidedly different look, now that a fire has swept through the city.

The fire was discovered shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday in the former First National Bank Building, which was being used as an office by Laurel Bio Composite.

The Laurel Bio Composite building, and the Thrivent Financial Services building, located directly to the south  were destroyed by the fire. Also damaged in the fire were the two Morten Hardware buildings, located just west of the three-story Laurel Bio Composite building.

Crews began razing all four buildings Thursday afternoon and the rubble is being hauled away.

Fire fighters from Laurel, Coleridge, Wayne, Dixon and Concord were called in to battle the blaze, which destroyed the three-story BioComposite building on the corner of Second Street and Oak Street in downtown Laurel.
