Laurel area residents celebrate Memorial Day with special events

Local American Legion and VFW veterans who attended the service were: (Back row) Shane Kinkaid, Jimmy Thompson, Jim Lipp, Gene Quist, (Second row)  Dwayne Freeman, Harry Knudsen, Dick Carlson, Roy Stohler, Lloyd Luedtke, (Front row) Bob Dickey, Regg Ward, Floyd Bloom, Ernie Swanson, Wilbur Rath and Gene Twiford.

LAUREL — Monday’s Memorial Day observance at the LCC gym began with the placing of the Colors by the Laurel VFW Post 4504 and American Legion Post 54.
Abby Bloom and Brittany Williams sang the National Anthem.
Pastor Lynn Qualm offered the invocation and the Marian Mallatt Singers provided patriotic selections.
LaVaughn “Ole” Mallatt was presented a plaque by the American Legion for 70 continuous years of membership.
Regg Ward introduced the speaker, historian and Laurel High School graduate, Roger Tryon.
He began by noting it was 100 years ago, April 6, 1917, that President Woodrow Wilson signed the Declaration of War against Germany.
