City Council hears about more improvement ideas

LAUREL — Tests on water samples from city wells are back, a Downtown Revitalization Project was discussed and an application for a liquor license for a new business was approved during the Laurel City Council meeting on Nov. 14.

John Swingman, from Advanced Consulting Engineering Services, West Point, talked to the City Council about a preliminary survey that had been done on a Downtown Improvement Project for the city.

The project could include new sidewalks, railings, curbs, gutters, street lights and could also address the drainage issues in the downtown area. Several options were discussed.

The project is still in the planning stages, said City Administrator Mark McCoy.

The next step would be to complete a topographic survey which would be an in-depth survey on the Downtown Improvement District.
