Bartels takes office as new County Commissioner

HARTINGTON    —  Craig Bartels was sworn in Thursday as the new Dist. 2 Cedar County Commissioner.
The brief exercise completes a four-and-a-half year journey.
Bartels. Belden, defeated incumbent Jerry Wiese in the primary back in May, and then ran unopposed in the general election.
He also ran four years prior. After Wiese defeated long-time incumbent Marlen Kraemer in the primary, Bartels started a write-in campaign to challenge him in the November election, falling short by just a few votes.
“It first popped into my head when Marlen Kraemer lost the primary by nine votes,” said Bartels. “I filed and ran as a write-in and had pretty close to 800 people write my name in, so I felt that the support was out there if I put my name on the ballot.”
