Area students participate in “Spring Sprints”

Wayne — The students in the Coleridge Level III program attended the Spring Sprints, Northeast Nebraska Track and Field Day in Wayne last week.

May 2 the students joined other special education students from the area where they participated in the Softball throw, 25-meter walk, 25-meter assisted walk, 10-meter wheelchair race, 50-meter walk, 25-meter wheelchair race and 50-meter assisted walk.

The participants enjoyed being out in the sun and spending the day outside. At the end of the long day, each participant was presented a trophy.

It was a day full of smiles, hugs, cheers and tears, from the para-educators, teachers and parents. The adults were proud of their children and the children were proud of their trophies. Everyone walked/wheeled away winners.

The trophies for this event are recycled track trophies that people have donated to the program. If you would like to donate to this amazing cause, please get in touch with the Eduational Service Unit, Wakefield, or the Wayne Special Education Department to make your donation.
