Area residents enjoy Ag Days

LAUREL — Last weekend’s Ag Days celebration was a time for area residents to come together and have fun as a community.
Celebrations kicked off on Friday with garage sales, a pool party and a dance for all the area middle school students, but the bulk of Ag Days was all day Saturday.

Dr. Irene Graves walks with her pet therapy horse Pippin.

The morning began with a 5k and a 10k fun run after a breakfast at the senior center. Following that was the parade showcasing a number of tractors, restored cars, church floats and sponsorship cars throwing candy to children waiting on the curbs with plastic bags. The parade also featured horses, including a horse-drawn buggy, and miniature ponies that walked up to children for them to pet.
Restored cars are one of the staples of any parade, and Jaylene Bauerly showcased her father’s newly-restored sky-blue 1964 Chevy.
Bauerly said her father bought the truck from a neighbor in 1971 for $700 and the family used it throughout her childhood.
