Wynot freshman lands spot on elite team

LINCOLN — It’s not often that a freshman is recognized as one of the best athletes in the state.
That’s the case, however, with Wynot’s Maggie Schulte.

The Lady Blue Devils’ 6-0 freshman post player led her team to the Class D2 state title earlier this month. She was named this week as a member of the Lincoln Journal Star’s Class D2 First Team All State Team.
Schulte finished her first visit to the state tournament with 32 points.
Prior to the Elite Eight showdown in Lincoln, the versatile freshman had racked up a team-high 263 points on the year.
She also led Wynot in rebounding with 163 boards this season.

This 2011 edition of the D2 First Team is dominated by youth. Only one of the five members on the elite team is a senior.
Mead’s Katie Johnson is the lone member of the Class of 2011. Three other members are juniors.
