Seniors earn top seed in tourney

HARTINGTON — Hartington closed out the regular season last week with three more conference wins to earn the top seed in this week’s Elkhorn Valley League Tournament.
The Seniors will open tourney play at home Wednesday against Neligh in first-round action.

The first-round winner will then play on Friday. If Hartington wins the opener, Felber Field will be the site of Friday’s semifinal game.
The tournament’s title game will be played in O’Neill this year on Saturday night.
Hartington defeated Battle Creek on Tuesday and Creighton on Wednesday. Hartington then closed out the regular season with a 21-1 drubbing of Madison at Felber Field.
The Hartington Seniors are now 9-1 in the Elkhorn Valley League and 9-10 overall. Nine of those 10 losses came in weekend tournament games. All but four of the losses were against either Class A or Class B schools.
Hartington enters the Elkhorn Valley Tournament as the top seed in the East. Other teams in the conference include: Creighton, Crofton, Battle Creek, O’Neill, Madison, Neligh, Ainsworth.
The Hartington Juniors are the second seed in the East bracket. Crofton, the only conference team to defeat the local juniors all year, is the top seed in the East. Hartington hosted the Ainsworth Juniors Tuesday.
The Hartington Juniors won last year’s conference title game at Crofton. The Juniors will enter District action next week, hosting the Area Tournament at Felber Field.
