Local students earn Academic All State Honors

LINCOLN — Several Hartington athletes and speech performers were honored this week by the Nebraska School Activities as members of the elite Academic All State teams.

Each year the Nebraska School Activities Association recognizes the top students in the state who excell in both extra curricular activities and academics.
Only those students who made significant contribution to their activity and excelled in the classroom are eligible for the award. To be eligible for Academic All State, the student must have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.7 on a 4.0-point scale.
Liz Kneifl earned Academic All State honors for her role in the classroom and on the Hartington Public School girls basketball team. Last fall, she earned Academic All State honors as a member of the Wildcat volleyball team.

Hartington High School speech performers Anna Pearson and Dana Fuelberth also earned Academic All State honors. Both girls also earned Academic All State accolades last Fall as members of the One-Act team. Pearson also earned the honor as a member of the Wildcat golf team.

Hartington basketball player Lori Fischer also earned Academic All State honors.

Cedar Catholic had two people repeat as members of the Academic All State team from the fall.

Ashley Kathol won the honor last fall in volleyball and earned the accolade again this season in basketball.  Kyle Dump earned Academic All State honors as a key member of the Cedar Catholic football team last fall. He also earned Academic All State honors this season as a member of the Cedar Catholic wrestling team. Dump was named MVP of both squads.

Corey Kruse and Kevin Wintz earned Academic All State honors as members of the Cedar Catholic basketball team. Kala Sudbeck joins Kathol on the Academic All State team for her play on the basketball court.

Wintz is one of three Cedar Catholic sophomores to earn the honor. Speech team members Lucy Herbolscheimer and Jessica Wiebalhaus also earned Academic All State honors this year.
