Local man treats his Mom to special gift

HARTINGTON — An old International “M” Farmall tractor turned out to be the perfect gift for Dion Miller to give his mother.

Dion’s quest to find the old “M” that had belonged to his grandfather,  took two years along with a lot of help from his friend Todd Haberman,

“We tracked the tractor through three states and five different owners,” Dion said. “I couldn’t have done it without the help of Todd.”

After a complete restoration, Dion gave the family tractor to his mother, Darlene Miller.

The tractor brought back a flood of happy memories for Darlene. She remembered driving the tractor as a young girl when she helped her father with his farm work.

The old International “M” brought a new interest into Darlene’s life when her cousin Jerome Mueller asked if she would drive her father’s tractor in the Tri-State Old Iron Tractor Drive.

In her very first Tractor Drive, Miller ended up driving the tractor from Yankton, S.D., to Hartington.

Darlene hadn’t driven a tractor for 50 years and did a lot of practicing with the help of her son before she made the  trip.
