Juniors suffer setback to Ainsworth

HARTINGTON — The Hartington American Legion Junior baseball team had a short stay in the Elkhorn Valley League Tournament last week.
Ainsworth bounced the 2010 Conference champs out of the event with a 9-0 setback at Felber Field.
Ainsworth then went on to claim the conference title Saturday night in O’Neill.

Ainsworth plated three first-inning runs to take the early advantage. Most of the central Nebraska team’s was provided by pitcher Kody Rothe, who blased a double to drive in a pair of runs.

Neither team was able to score in the second or third frames, but Ainsworth got on the board again in the fourth frame. Ainsworth sent 10 men to the plate in the frame, scoring six of them. Derek White’s RBI triple was the big blast of the inning.
Trent Jansen suffered the loss for Hartington, while Devon Lammers came on in relief.
Hartington was only able to muster a pair of hits in the contest. Eric Kruse and Devon Lammers both singled for the home team, which entered the tournament as the second overall seed.

Hartington is now off until Thursday, July 14.
The Hartington squad will take on Wakefield Thursday in the nightcap of first-round District Tournament action.
