Hartington to glitter and glow for celebration

HARTINGTON — Mark your calendar — Nov. 18, is the date and downtown Hartington is the place to be.
That date will mark Hartington’s 11th annual Candlelight Christmas celebration and Lighted Vehicle Parade.
This year’s edition of the celebration promises a fun evening for everyone. The theme chosen for this year’s event is, “It’s a Charlie Brown Christmas.”
Several businesses will host open houses.

New events this year include a Christmas cookie baking and decorating contest.
Participants are asked to bring their entries to the city office between 8 and 10 a.m. for judging.
Leise Miniatures will provide a petting zoo in the parking lot beside the Cedar County News office beginning at 5 p.m. Horse and buggy rides will be available, as well, and BINGO will be played at the Senior Center.
Two local groups will be holding fundraisers Friday.
The CCHS band will be hosting free Christmas movies in the auditorium basement beginning at 4 p.m.
Face painting and Advent wreaths are also planned. Pizza, cookies and bars will be available.

The HPS Close Up group will hold a Scentsy fundraiser from 6-8 p.m. at Lifestyles Hair and Barbershop.
Christmas Caroling will be enjoyed as well as living Christmas scenes in the business windows downtown.
Beginning at 7 p.m., the Lighted Vehicle Parade will begin. Parade entries are asked to assemble on the south end of Broadway. The featured guest at the parade will be the jolly gentleman from the North Pole. After the parade, Santa will be available to visit with children and hear their Christmas wishes at the Senior Citizen’s Center.
Open houses will be held at Hartelco, Floral Designs, the library, Sheila’s Country Gardens, Fay’s Furniture & Floor Covering and Pearson Motor Co.
A grand opening will also be held at Etched Impressions & MORE.
Kruse Hardware will also host a scavenger hunt and cookie decorating from 6-9 p.m.
For those who are looking for a meal, chili and hot dogs will be served at the Knights of Columbus Hall and the Chief will offer a Steak Dinner. Casey’s will be offering specials on pizza, coffee and cappuccino.
Anyone looking for a snack, can find cookies and milk served at the Bank of Hartington from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nissen Wine will host wine tasting at 203 N. Broadway.
