Hartington 10s finish year at 10-3

Liby Lange slides safely into home during action here Thursday in the season finale against Crofton. Lange and the rest of her 10-and-under Hartington team earned the 7-1 win to end the season at 10-3 on the year.

HARTINGTON  — The Hartington 10-and-under softball team wrapped up the season with three recent wins.
The local team closed out the year with a 10-3 record. All three losses came at Crofton’s hands.
The fourth meeting between the two teams came out in Hartington’s favor, though, as Hartington earned the 7-1 win to close out the season on a high note.

“Hartington’s 10 and under girls had a great season and I am very proud of them and thank them for all their hard work throughout the season,” Coach Eden Pinkelman said.
Hartington earned a 14-1 win over Wynot June 23.
Hartington plated five runs in the first inning, with Joelie Schriber hitting a triple down the third base line to key the offense.
Wynot pushed one run across the plate in their half of the frame.
In the second inning, Hartington again scored five runs.
Abbe Morton provided a nice hit past the shortstop to score Hannah Kleinschmit in the inning. Hartington held  Wynot scoreless in their half of the inning, thanks, in part, to Gina Jueden tag out at second base.
Neither team was able to score in the third frame. Another stellar defensive play, this one a Liby Lange tag while playing  by the pitcher, helped the Hartington defense.
In the fourth inning Hartington pushed two more runs across the plate when Kenlee Goeden hit a double scoring Ireland Biltoft.
Willa Scoville’s solid play at shortstop aided the Hartington defense in the inning.
In the final frame, Hartington again scored two runs. Tielor Kneifl provided the offensive spark by belting out a triple.
Hartington held Wynot scoreless in the final frame thanks, in part to  Belle Harms’ catch at first to get the final out.
On June 28, Hartington defeated Bloomfield  14-10.
Hartington got its offense going early, plating five first-inning runs. Gina Jueden’s triple provided the spark in the frame. Anna Reifenrath also hit a double for Hartington.
Hartington put three more runs on the board in the second frame. Maizie Christensen’s solid hit was the highlight of the second frame. Liby Lange played solid defense in the second frame to keep Bloomfield from scoring.
In the third inning, Bloomfield put two on the board, but Hartington managed to increase its lead to 9-2 thanks to Brianna Miller’s run.
Hartington again plated five runs in the fourth frame. Willa Scoville’s double provided most of the firepower in the frame.
Bloomfield was able to plate eight more runs in the final two frames, but it wasn’t enough to keep Hartington from winning.
Hartington finished out the season with a 7-1 win over Crofton on  June 30.
Neither team was able to score in the first frame. Joelie Schreiber’s solid defense helped Hartington keep Crofton off the board in the inning.
Hartington was not able to score in the second frame, either, but  Crofton put up a run to take the 1-0 lead.
In the third inning Hartington took a 3-1 lead thanks, in part, to a Kenlee Goeden double.
Hannah Kleinschmit’s solid defensive play in the outfield helped keep Crofton off the board in the frame.
Hartington put the game out of reach with a four-run fourth- inning explosion.
Tielor Kniefl hit a double and Belle Harms smacked a triple to lead Hartington in the frame.
Hartington kept Crofton scoreless in the final frame. The Hartington ‘D’ was paced in the frame by Ireland Biltoft’s good defense and Liby Lange’s  line-drive catch.
