City utility rates going up

HARTINGTON — Hartington City Council members voted to increase the city utility fees Monday.
The fee for water will be increased from $20 to $25 per quarter for minimum use. The garbage fee will go from $24.50 up to $30 per quarter for residential pick up.
The new fees will go into affect in January 2008.

In other action Monday, after reviewing an offer from Alltel to put cell phone antennas on the city water tower, the Council again tabled making a decision.
“We will still pursue making an agreement with Alltel,” said Mayor Bill Yates. “We will want someone from Alltel to be at our January meeting so we can ask some questions.”

Council members had concerns with the number of antennas that Alltel would be allowed to add to the city water tower with the offer that was made.
The offer will be sent to JEO Consulting, which acts as the city engineer and also be reviewed by City Attorney Steve Pier.
“We will have our city attorney tentatively write up an agreement between Hartington and Alltel so we will have it at our January meeting,” said Yates.
In other action Monday, Council members made appointments to a newly formed committee for the city of Hartington.
The committee will oversee how funds from the sales tax will be spent.
Jason Dendinger, Donna Fischer, Deb Addison, Burnell Herbolsheimer and John Kramer were appointed to serve on the Citizen Advisory Committee for Economic Development.
