City Council again tables Verizon contract

HARTINGTON — No action was taken at the City Council meeting on Feb. 11 concerning an agreement the Hartington City Council has made with Verizon Wireless.

The cell phone company is seeking to install three new 109-foot antennas on the city water tower. They already have one 109- and one 47-foot antenna, but want to add on to expand and improve their service area.

A price of $900 was suggested at the previous meeting. However, after some discussion, City Council members decided to up the price to $1,500 a month plus a three percent yearly increase.

Councilman Cody Christensen said he spoke to someone who actually builds towers and said the three percent increase was suggested to him.

“I was told it was pretty much a standard to have an annual increase,” Christensen said.
