Chief Bar to reopen this February

HARTINGTON — The Chief Bar in Hartington is scheduled to reopen early to mid-February.

Dave Froistad, Lincoln, recently purchased the bar and picked up the keys to the facility Monday.

Froistad graduated from Hartington Public High School in 1986 and has been looking for an opportunity to come back to Hartington with his family.

“It seems like there’s more freedom to be a kid here,” he said.

Owning his own business, specifically a bar and grill, has been a dream of his, he said.

When it came to the Chief Bar and Grill, Froistad said, “Everything I wanted to do kind of came together in one package.”

This will be Froistad’s first time running a business, but he said it will be an exciting change.

In Lincoln, Froistad worked in juvenile detention for 16 years.

He has many ideas for the Chief Bar and Grill including implementing a weekly special each night of the week and “dinner and a movie” nights on Sundays.

Breakfast and quick lunch items will also be on the menu, he said.

Overall, Froistad said he would like the Chief Bar and Grill to be known as a family-friendly place.

“We’re going to try to make it more welcoming to families,” he said.

His wife, Kacey, is currently helping him prepare the Chief Bar and Grill for their opening day.
