Cedar students compete in Poetry Out Loud contest

HARTINGTON — Several Cedar Catholic students proved they aren’t shy about sharing their thoughts.

Sarah Lammers, Cassidy Ulrich, Brianna Miller, Jayda Bernecker, Nicholas Paltz, Sadie Uhing, Hannah Rembert and Hannah Kleinschmit participated in Cedar Catholic High School’s annual Poetry Out Loud school competition held each year during Catholic Schools Week.

Two classroom winners from each grade 9-12 compete for the opportunity to move onto the regional competition in Norfolk Feb. 15.

This year’s winner was senior, Hannah Rembert.  Freshman, Jayda Bernecker received runner-up honors.

Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation competition and educational program for high school students. POL encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance, which helps them master public speaking skills, build self-confidence and learn about our literary heritage.
