Cats earn a 28-12 win over Randolph

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Wildcats broke open a tight game Friday when Eric Derickson scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to give the Cats a 28-12 Homecoming victory.
Derickson would amass 77 yards on 15 carries. Alec Fuelberth had a solid night as well with 88 yards on 17 carries.
Randolph’s Dylan Loberg led all rushers with 89 yards on 21 carries and Nolan Nordhues connected on five passes for 46 yards for the Cardinals.

“This was a big win for us. Randolph is a good team and our kids showed up ready to play. The offensive line did a good job to allow us to run the ball in very windy conditions,” said Hartington head coach Blair Kalin.
The Cardinals would get on the scoreboard first as Dylan Loberg broke a 43-yard scoring jaunt for the visitors in red. The Pat run failed and Randolph led 6-0.
Hartington would answer back when Nick Miller hooked up with the Homecoming king Adam Wortmann on a nice 17-yard scoring strike. The PAT run failed and the first quarter ended in a 6-6 tie.
The Cardinals would put together another scoring drive early in the second period. Behind the hard running of Dylan Loberg they would march 65 yards in 11 plays. Loberg bulled in from the three-yard line for the score. The PAT run was stuffed by the Wildcat defense. The score stood at 12-6.
Later in the second quarter the Wildcats would answer with a 18-yard sweep to the left side by Alec Fuelberth for Hartington’s second touchdown of the night. Fuelberth added the PAT and Hartington clung to a 14-12 lead at the half.
The third quarter saw both defensive units step up their play.
Reece Pedersen picked up an interception and Ty Dybdal had a fumble recovery to stall a couple of Cardinal drives. Neither team was able to break the goal line and the score remained 14-12 going into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the Wildcats get a spark from Eric Derickson who capped a drive with a three-yard dive over the left side for a touchdown.
But Derickson was not done as he broke free on a 17-yard gallop for a second touchdown. Nick Miller ran in the PAT as Hartington celebrated the 28-12 Homecoming win.
