Authorities still investigating church break-in

HARTINGTON — Theft and vandalism occurred at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, last week when intruders broke a window and climbed into the church building.

Pastor Amanda Jertson found the damages Tuesday morning, May 21.

“It happened over night,” Jertson said. “The window they broke to get in was in the  Meditation Garden. They also kicked the door in on the office.”

One laptop and a few personal items, which belonged to the pastor, are missing.

“The laptop they took held a lot of the information that we need for daily functions,” Jertson said. “They also went through our safe and threw papers around.”

A second laptop and other items were left in place at the church.

The intruders also set off a fire extinguisher in the building which caused some damage.

Most of the fluid from the fire extinguisher was found in the kitchen area, although it spread into other areas of the building.
