American Legion Juniors earn big wins

HARTINGTON— The Hartington American Legion Junior baseball team ended the regular season here last week with three more wins.
Hartington, 8-2, defeated Battle Creek, Creighton and Bloomfield to complete the regular season. The local team was expected to take on Ainsworth Tuesday in first-round action of the Elkhorn Valley League Tournament.
Hartington pushed three first-inning runs across the plate against Bloomfield to take the early lead. Bloomfield plated one in the third frame, but the local team put up three more to extend their lead to 6-1.
Frank Herbolsheimer scored two of the team’s early runs, while Dalton Lammers, Tyler Loberg, Eric Kruse and Steve Herbolsheimer also made it safely home.

The Hartington squad put a pair of insurance runs on the board in the fourth frame thanks mostly to wild Bloomfield pitching. Lammers and Frank Herbolsheimer earned walks, and then worked their way around the basepaths with wild pitches before scoring.
Bloomfield was able to muster two more runs in the contest, but it wasn’t enough to topple the home team.
Dalton Lammers earned the win on the mound for Hartington.
In Wednesday’s game against Creighton, the Hartington squad got off to a very fast start, batting around and scoring 12 runs in the first frame.
Frank Herbolsheimer, Eric Kruse, Tyler Loberg, and Ross Hegge all scored a pair of runs in the opening inning. Dalton Lammers, Steve Herbolsheimer, Cody Lammers, Devon Lammers and Tucker Loberg also scored to start the game.

In the fourth frame, Hartington extended its lead when Tyler Loberg was hit by a pitch to reach the basepaths. He then worked his way home to give Hartington a 13-1 lead.
Coach Tim Loberg’s team ended the contest in the fifth inning by pushing five more runs across the plate and not allowing Creighton to score again.

Eric Kruse and Cody Lammers both singled. while Steve Herbolsheimer walked then scored and Tyler Loberg reached base on an error then scored.
Ross Hegge earned the win on the mound for Hartington.
Hartington jumped out to a five-run lead in the first frame against Battle Creek and never looked back from there.

Steve Herbolsheimer and Tyler Loberg both smacked first-inning doubles, while Trent Jansen singled. Eric Kruse also reached base in the first frame on a walk and Frank Herbolsheimer got on after being hit by a pitch. All five then ended up coming around to score.
The score remained unchanged until the fifth inning when Cody Lammers crossed the plate for Hartington.
Battle Creek’s Nate Gray doubled to reach base and Colten Welke reached base on an error in the sixth frame. Both athletes were able to score in the inning.

Hartington countered with one more run in their half of the inning.
Frank Herbolsheimer tripled to lead off the inning. Tucker Loberg’s double then drove him home.
Devon Lammers earned the win on the mound for Hartington. He struck out a season-high 12 batters in the contest, while only giving up seven hits.
