County hears road info

HARTINGTON — Cedar County officials heard bids and awarded a culvert project north of Coleridge at last week’s meeting.

The project is located north of Coleridge between 876 and 877 Rds on 569 Ave.

The first bid was from Contech Construction Products, Inc., Lincoln, and their bid was for $27,044. The second was from Midwest Service and Sales, Co., Schulyer. Their bid was for $29,599.56. The final bid was from B’s Enterprises, Inc., Norfolk, for $29,700.

The date of delivery for the products ranged anywhere from 4-8 weeks for all three bidders, according to the County Clerk Dave Dowling.

After a short discussion, county officials initially tabled awarding the project to one of these three companies, but the bid ended up being awarded to Contech.

In other action Tuesday, the county talked about the prospect of vacating a half mile of 866 Rd, between Sections 19 and 30.

County Road Supt. Carla Schmidt conducted a study on this half mile.

“The above portion of the minimum maintenance road ends and becomes a field,” she said.

Schmidt also reported the west half mile of 866 Rd was formally closed in 1981.

“After looking at this road, I recommend to the county board that vacating this half mile section of minimum maintenance road would cause no hardship or inconvenience to the landowners,” she said.

A notice will be published in the paper that there will be a hearing held concerning the vacating of this road. People can attend it and comment or ask the Board questions. From there, the Board will then move forward with the process.
