Cedar County is named second best location in state for job seekers

HARTINGTON — Attention all job seekers.

If you are still looking for that perfect position, read on because a national internet site recently released a list that may be of help.

After some serious calculations, the internet company NerdWallet named Colfax County the top Nebraska county for job seekers.

Cedar County came in second on the list while Wayne, Holt and Red Willow counties rounded out the rest of the Top Five.

NerdWallet looked at four main components for compiling this list.

“Other than unemployment rate, our analyst also factored in the change in the county’s working age population from 2009 to 2011, the median household income … and the median monthly homeowner costs in Cedar County,” said Rowena Li, a communications analyst for the company.

NerdWallet is a consumer advocacy website that offers free and unbiased tools, recommendations, and studies to help people make the best financial decisions in every stage of their lives.

In the article, Annie Wang, a spokeswoman for NerdWallet, said one reason for Cedar County’s second-place rating was because its working-age population grew by 3.2 percent between 2009 and 2011.

Wang also mentioned the county’s 2.7 percent unemployment rate in August 2013. Ten years ago, this rate stood a little higher at three percent.

In the article, Cedar Catholic High School, Gerhold Concrete, and Hydraulic Components, Inc. were deemed the top non-governmental employers in the county.
